American Idol Paula Abdul said she was “shocked and saddened” after a woman, who once auditioned on the fifth series of her show, was found dead near the singer’s home in LA. Paula Goodspeed was found in a car alongside prescription drugs, CDs and pictures of the pop star, and though an official cause of death has yet to be determined, it is believed she died of “suicide by overdose”. Abdul said in a statement, released by her publicist Jeff Ballard: “I am deeply shocked and saddened at what transpired yesterday…My heart and prayers go out to her family.” Goodspeed was thought to be obsessed by the American Idol judge and told the show’s host, Ryan Seacrest, that she had created life-size paintings of the singer.
