What is the best way to keep makeup from smudging or smearing for the entire day?13 replies

I want to know tips/advice on how to keep makeup (esp. eye makeup) stay put from morning to night. Sometimes when I wear waterproof eyeliner & mascara, towards the end of the day, I start to look like a raccoon. I tried using non-waterproof liner and non-waterproof mascara as well but the results are pretty similar.

I lotion my face, dust it with a loose powder before applying any make-up. Any other suggestions are greatly appreciated!

I hear ya there! I have very oily skin and I always keep a mirror with me and tissues. That way I can touch up my makeup through the day when I’ve either been sweating, or just when the “oilies” hit. I use smudge proof stuff and it works ok but oily skin always wins the battle.

The biggest key is to keep your hands away from your face. the natural oils in your hands can break smug makeup fast. also, make sure you’re using a good quality product like MAC. The high quality eye shadows and liners have been tested and can usually withstand more wear than drug store brands. Good luck!

Try a mattiying lotion such as mac cosmetics. If your skin is oily, it works wonders and another product I recommend for stay proof wear is Paula’s Choice matte lotion. It is in no way greasy and glides like silk when dry. I use this and I have less smearing & smudging.

I have tried every thing and every kind of makeup out there. I can tell you some thing that actually works. Get micro pigmentation. Or permenent make up what ever you want to call it. It is not painful and it works. It is only called permenent because it will not wash off. You may have to have it touched up every couple of years because it fades, the price is not high compaired to what you pay for eyeliner and the constant smudging. It is well worth it. I have it done, I liked it so much I learned how to do it. I provide the service to other women for free, just the cost of the ink. It is well worth checking in to find a micro pigmentation specialist in your area and make an appointment.
    Good Luck,

As for your eye make-up staying put all day, you might want to try Mary Kay Signature Eye Primer. It makes blending a bit more tricky, but it keeps the eye make-up in place all day. I also used Mary Kay Waterproof mascara. This is the only mascara I have found that does NOT smudge for me. A consultant would be happy to let you try the products before you buy and they offer 100% guarantee. You can’t lose trying them! The website also offers a free virtual make-over and application tips. It’s fast and fun to play with! Good luck.

My girlfriend used to live and work in NY as a showgirl, no not a stripper a real showgirl and she spilled the secret is to spray a thin layer of hairspray on your face.

After you finish your makeup hold the aerosol can about 12 inches away from your face until you feel it is covered…do this before mascara is applied….afterwards put on mascara

You can sweat or whatever and your makeup stays on. You can’t do it every day though or you will break out form clogged pores.

I do it for special occasions or when I am going somewhere outside all day and want to look nice.

The mascara and eyeliner thing is easy…use Isa Dora liquid eyeliner…..once you get used to a liquid you will never go back to the pencil smudging crap and Loreal waterproof Lash out…it works great

As far as eyeliner goes, I use Stila smudge Pot gel Eyeliner or MAC Fluidline. trust me they both stay on for many many hours. Try using eye shadow with a damp eye shadow brush, and apply a make-up primer first. This will help your eye shadow to last. As far as make-up goes I think sometimes it helps to pay a little more for long wearing, long lasting products.

use an oil control foundation after cleansing and toning your face,ad apply loose powder.apply wutever makeup u want, just pack a small bag or kit, containing pressed powder compact, lip balm and a lip gloss and an eye liner.u can freshen up your makeup in ten minutes.the thing is no matter what ur makeup will get smudge in time, with the most quality products, its all about skin, and stress and type of work you do, all that.think about refreshing your makeup twice.

My lady suggest to use Merle Norman cosmetics. Log on:. It is expensive but it lasts a long time. If you go in, they’ll do a mini-makeover. You try their products before you purchase them.

Put some “primer” on your eye lids before applying eye makeup. A lot of makeup companies produce this stuff. Here’s a link to see Mary Kay’s:. Your eyemakeup will look great 8 hours after you applied it!

For my face, I use “oil blotting sheets” to soak up the excess oil without messing up my makeup. Here’s a link to those:. Victoria’s Secret also makes those, and they’re awesome as well!

Those two things keep my oily skin in check!

L’Oreal De-Crease or MAC Bare Canvas are good primers for the eyes.
