I recently got married and of course I did not have the make-up person come to the reception and do touch-ups, that's ridiculous! But I did have an aunt who kept asking me what she could do to help me. So I asked her to be on "hair and make-up patrol" to make sure I didn't have any smeared make-up or badly out-of-control hair for the wedding pictures, etc. It turned out that the lipstick the make-up artist used kept coming off every hour or so. I was totally oblivious, but my aunt stayed true to her word and whispered to me "your lipstick is gone," once or twice so I could sneak off to re-apply it. Sounds silly, but bridal photos without lipstick aren't as pretty. I was really glad I had lipstick for at least the majority of the photos! If I had it to do over I'd make sure I was wearing "all day" lipstick!

Unless they're having pictures after the ceremony, I would say that's just plain over doing it. You're right, makeup should last that long. Maybe the bride can reapply some powder and lipstick but that would be IT.

I think that if you have a professional artist do your makeup, you won't have to worry about touchups (assuming they use waterproof makeup and that you aren't one of those couples that smear cake all over your faces and now have to wipe it off and therefore wipe off your makeup).

For me, by the end of the night I would care less what I look like. I think that the brides who would contract that during the planning are thinking they'll actually care what they look like during the party. In all of the cases that I've seen, brides end up just letting loose and having so much fun that they don't focus on things like blush and mascara.

It is very bride-zilla ish. If you have the make up that the artist used, then you should be able to touch up your own make up. But the artist should take advantage and charge time and a half...

Yep, it's ridiculous. My make-up artist is giving me a sample of the lip color she's using on me at no extra cost, and then I'm on my own for the rest of the day/evening. There's no way I would waste money on keeping her around in case I started to get shiny in my T-zone area.

I have a friend who is a makeup artist and this has never happened to her. She goes for the wedding and photos and occasionally stays through the wedding to touch it up before the reception, but not at the reception. Also, with the types of makeup most makeup artists use, the bride is paying a useless fee. Even if she gets touched up, the makeup artist isn't doing much.

I agree with you. I was in a wedding one time, though, where the girl who did our make up stayed around. (It was a little bit of a different scenario...she was a bridesmaid too!) You're right that's bridezilla behavior. I'm planning on having my make up done at the Clinique counter where I'll have to buy 2 items and get my makeup done for free. I'm planning on buying whatever lipstick and eyeshadow we use, so I can do my own touchups. There'll be plenty of time for me to do it myself between the ceremony and the reception.

No that means they would be touching up makeup all night. I think once it is done you are grown enough to touch it up!
