Does anyone else have a cat that likes to chew up plastic grocery bags? My 10 year old female cat has always done this. When I come home with a plastic bag, she goes bonkers! She chews and chews, sometimes swallowing the plastic. I’ve had a bag with meat in it, that she ignores and just goes crazy for the bag! I’m just wondering why.

unknown but keep the plastic away or you will have many vet bills.
I have a cat who does the same thing and I’ve found a few things that seem to help a little. I provide lots of toys, especially ones that have a crunchy feel to them or catnip inside. I give him some chew sticks that he really seems to enjoy. I occasionally get a pot of fresh wheatgrass-available at pet stores- for him to nibble on.
I’m still not sure WHY my cat does the chewing, but I give him the opportunity to chew healthy things as much as possible. Sometimes I think his chewing is for attention because he’ll ignore a plastic bag all day until I’m near it and he’ll chew on it while looking at me. Weird! But I guess the most important thing is to keep plastic bags away from your cat, especially if she is pulling off pieces to swallow.
because it likes chewing on stuff like that and rolling around lol i got my cat this tow thats like a plastic tunnel and she runs through it and bites on it lol so yeah my cat just chews on anything thats plastic pretty much.
Uh, thats bad-MKay?
If she’s swallowing them, keep them away from her! This could kill her! Mine loves corrugated cardboard. She sleeps in plastic bags, but she doesn’t chew them.
Yes I have a cat who likes to chew on grocery bags, but we try to keep him out of them because he will swallow it and I don’t want him to choke.
I read an article (but am unable to relocate it) that said that animal fat is sometimes used to thinly coat the outside of plastic bags, causing them not to stick together as much. Whether or not this is completely true, I am uncertain, though I do know that plastic bag manufacturers often use animal fat in production. It sure would explain why cats love playing and licking bags.
It could also be due to a sweet taste due to the chemicals used. Cats will often lick photographic paper, because of the sweet taste due to the chemicals used. And much like the sweet taste of antifreeze… can have dire consequences.
