Why does my cat like sleeping on plastic bags?16 replies

Seriously, we have a whole cupboard full of plastic bags, and every now and then, we find her asleep on top of them. She absolutely hates blankets, no matter how much I try to convince her to sleep on them. When she was younger, and sleeping in a little cat home we made for her, she’d jump out of the warm, soft blankets and head straight for the plastic bag cupboard.

She completely and totally loathes soft things and loves plastic bags… why?

cats like to sleep in really strange places.
your cat probs likes it there and finds it comftable.
if your cat doesn’t want to sleep on the blanket then it won’t.

as long as your cat doesn’t try eating the plastic bags then it should be fine.

    hope i helped.

Thats cats for ya! They’re daft. Mine sleeps on top of my PC or my printer. If you don’t want them to kip on something put a sheet of cooking foil on it, they won’t go on foil. They’re shite-scared of it because they’re a bit thick.

Cats sleep on newspapers and plastic bags for the same reason homeless people sometimes line their clothing with newspapers and plastic bags: warmth! Paper is a pretty good insulator; It holds in heat. Same with plastic…
If I were you, I wouldn’t let the cat into the bin of plastic bags though. Although it’s unlikely, there’s a chance of suffocation. That’s why the bags usually have warnings printed on them to keep them away from small children and pets.

She probably feels comfortable on them. It seems like every time my cat hears a plastic bag he comes out running. lol.

10 second clip of him going through one!

most cats like the crinkly sound- some cats prefer crinkly newspaper, others prefer crinkly plastic bags…they make crinkly cat blankets and toys that most cats LOVE:
    interactive toy-thing in a bag:
    mousey toy-mylar balls:
    crinkly tunnel (bed and toy):
at home I have an old pillow that I slipped inside of a plastic bag then I put a pillow case over the plastic bag and sewed it up: my cat has a soft pillow that makes the crinkly sound and he loves it!

They like the crackling that they make. I swear my goofy cat has a plastic bag fetish. He licks them if one is laying around. But if you rattle it, he runs for the hills, lol!!!!!!

They like the sound… spread them out on the floor. My cat goes crazy can’t decide with one to lay on.

Its snug for them..retains the body heat!
you can buy ‘Crackle’ bags for them. its a bag approx 12″ x 12 ” with an opening, made of fabric but the inner lining is made of plastic my cat adores it!
we often find plastic bags with teeth marks in! no chance of suffocation in our household!!

found this one on the web!

Cats enjoy licking plastic bags because they’re probably attracted to the rendered animal fat (this fat is also known as “tallow”) that is contained in the plastic. Some hand and face creams contain extracts of farm animals, such as collagen, and cats will occasionally lick at these. a cat may like to lick photographs. Photographs contain an emulsion that has gelatin, an animal product, as one of its ingredients,

mine used to sleep in shoe boxes – with the shoes still in…. of boxes with door handles in (we are doing up the house). cats sleep where they want. very odd creatures…
although – i guess the bags might insulate quite well – warm and snuggly kitty???
