I’m asking this not because I got in trouble but because someone that I know who is also on probation got caught in another state with 3 bags of marijuana on them and they told the police officers that they were going to give it to someone instead of saying that it was theirs. What would happen to this person. By the way this person is an adult.

Jump the state, never go back.
Here’s hoping it was Rhode Island.
That person will have a nice long vacation. anywhere from 2 – 10 years depending on how the judge looks at it. Given the fact that the person is already on probation, probably somewhere in the middle.
I think they just admitted to trafficking in drugs and will be going away to prison for a long time.
Prison. Everything they own will be seized and sold at a Government auction. People who’s name came up as being affiliated with this person will also be watched or questioned.
Will go jail for a long time..
I am guessing they will be prosecuted and thrown in jail. You have it in your possession then you are responsible for it.
For starters, your friend would be charged with posession of over 32 grams of marijuana, and being in another state, he/she would be charged with trafficking and since they are already on probation, that would be a couple of probation violations,so your friend is going to end up doing some time. They might even get them for distributing considering they told the police it was for someone else, not very smart.
Because this person is on probation, they’ll likely be serving time.
Just a quick tip. If you have marijuana on you, it’s always best to disclose it to the police. They’re more likely to throw it away rather than charge you IF they don’t have to search you or your car for it.
