Approximatly how many bags of shavings do you use per month for one stall?

How big are the bags, and how well bedded is your stall?

    I use 3 a week, so, 12 a month.

EDIT: I do use rubber mats as well, though.

I use about 4 bags a week. My stalls are very well bedded because I think my horses comfort is very important! So I guess I use 16 per month and 192 per year! Whoa!!!! That is alot of bags of shavings :) They are standard size :) Hope I helped and good luck :)

Wow I was excessive.. lol. I have 12×12 stalls and start with 4 bags. As I clean, I probably replace 1-2 bags a week. The first of the month I start all over. I have rubber mats, too. I use about 7 bags a month per stall, 7 stalls. So about 50 bags a month. Sometimes more, sometimes less too, depending on how fine the shavings are. The finer, the more absorbent, but you can mix them too so its not so dusty. Depends too, winter or summer, how much they are in the stall, etc. and how messy they are. Each bag is 3 cubic feet/40 pounds.

For a 12′ x 12′ stall, you need 4 to initially bed the stall and then 2 bales during the week to replace the soiled shavings you remove.
These are the 7cubic ft bales of shavings.

You may also want some sweet lime to put on the pee holes in the stall to get rid of the ammonia smell.

The amount of shavings used in a stall depend on the stall size. My stall is lined with around 2 inches of shavings. I use at least three per week depending on if my horse is in the pasture or not. My stall is lined with rubber bottoms as well. My friend just has a pile of shavings in her stall to collect pee. She uses two bags of shavings per week. I use ‘RoseBud’ shavings. A 45 pound bale of Rosebud Horse Bedding can absorb 180 pounds of liquid. I buy them from a feed store for around $10 a bale. Hope this helps.

I use half a bag a day so 3.5 a week so 14 a month, I never take out all the shavings of the stall only the dirty shavings so my horse is very clean his shavings are almost completely clean which gives him a well bedded stall. my bags are i believe 50 pounds or so, but our stalls are big and sacious so…
