In the US? One carry on (9″ x 14″ x 22″ (length + width + height)) and one personal bag, such as a laptop bag or a handbag.

check the website of your airline – some are diff than others…
And/or/but, generally on most, you are allowed, two checked bags, a carry on and a “personal bag” (pocket-book, briefcase etc)

The standard for US flights is one carryon with a total of 45 linear inches, and one purse or laptop bag.

Also, any bags you bring with food for consumption on the plane are not counted as carryon.

Post 9/11 it remains with 1 carry on and 2 checked luggage. The only differences is that only 50 lbs is allowed on checked luggage (70lbs on certain). Also there are limited restrictions on liquids. Only 3oz. is allowed an it has to be in a clear plastic (sandwich) bag.

I’ve taken both my wife and my mother-in-law—so that’s two.
