How many bags (80 lbs) of concrete mix would it take to fill a 10 X 12 pad at about 2 to 3 inches deep?12 replies

Im trying to build a storage shed and I wanted to pour a concrete pad for it, but I didnt want to have to spend more money with a cement truck. So I was going to buy 80 lbs bags of concrete mix and do it myself.

   i am pretty sure it would say on the bag how much area you can cover depending on the mix ratio you use cause you’re going to want to mix it with sand and water

   It sounds like a good idea, but in reality, you would be much better off hiring a truck to come in and pour it for you:) My husband was going to pour pads on each side of his horseshoe pits, and it was incredible how many bags it took! (Can’t remember exactly, now) But the bags sure don’t go as far as you think they will~plus you only have so much time to work with it before it sets up, so something that large~call the cement company and have them come dump it in your forms for you:)

   It should tell you on the bag how much area it will cover.

   A lot I think you would be better off getting the concrete trucked in. Plus it would probably be cheaper. Around here its about 80 a yard delivered.

   You’re a brave man. Thats a lot of work, by hand, bro!! You could get a truck for 150 bucks. For what you need would only take a yard of concrete. Plus delivery, you’d only have about $150 in the whole thing. WHere as if you buy the bags you’ll have about 200, and a back ache in the morning. Do yourself the favor and just order a yard, buddy. You’ll thank yerself in the long run. Don’t forget to put some concrete wire in your pour. It’ll keep it from cracking! And make sure your ground is nice and compacted!

   Break down and have a truck come. And if you are in an area that experiences freezing wintertime temperatures, I would make it at least 4″ thick. You could also rent a concrete mixer from one of those rent a centers. I think you would be looking at 40 to 50 bags.

    Cement bags have a yield printed on them. Have you ever tried to handle 80lb. bags? Not worth the effort! Hire a cement truck to deliver the correct amount and save your back!

    45 bags for three in. better have a good base. cheaper to have a truck esp. if you can get someone to split a load…
