How do you feel about plastic bags?18 replies

Just wanted to know what people thought of plastic bags now, while the world is completely environmentally conscious. Do you still feel fine about receiving a plastic bag from a retailer after buying an item, or would you rather have your item handed to you in a recyclable bag?

I don’t care what is given to me as long as it holds my purchases !

If I don’t need a bag to carry my stuff in then I just say “I don’t need a bag, thanks”. But I’m glad they are still there for those times when I’ve bought half a dozen things, don’t already have a bag to put them in, have a child’s bike in one hand and the dog’s lead in the other.

I like to my own bags with me when I go shopping so I dont have to use plastic bags. I f I do end up with any though I will recycle them. I heard that they are gonna ban plastic bags, dont no if this is true though.

i would rather have a recyclable bag to be honest.
i keep a pile of carrier bags in my room so i can re-use them when i need to.
its a bit stupid getting one bag per shop and then taking it home and throwing it away.

I have so many plastic bags at my house. Now I’m trying not to get the plastic as fewer as possible

Worst things ever. Terrible damage to environment and ecology.

Why do people need to put their shopping in all those bags, when all they are going to do is take it from the supermarket to the car in their trolley anyway? And then from car to house. It’s just laziness.

Bring back proper shopping bags. And proper local shops.

    (Including Post Offices)

it should be better use recyclable bags or we could use the same one for more items bought in different place and use this bag again… in the sea many fishes die for our plastic bags because they exchange them for medusas and eat them!

For those who are worried about plastic bags, there are now clothe bags that you can purchase, carry with you, and use over & over again.

    I really hate them because:
    They build up at home
    you never reuse them
They’re not heavy-duty and break easily
    They can’t be recycled

I have lots of reusable bags (made out of fabric) for shopping. Their capacity is much bigger than plastic bags and I’m no longer a walking advertisement.

Supermarkets should just stop giving out free plastic bags. Most places in Europe make you pay. I noticed that ASDA actually gives you 2p back on your shopping bill for every bag you bring with you. If supermarkets won’t do it themselves, the Government should step in and issue some kind of fine. Same goes for all the other useless packaging they put on everything!

In JJB Sports the other day they refused to not give me a plastic bag for “security” reasons! (I think this is bad – security is their problem not mine).

i went to Matalan once & bought cups, plates etc., – & they gave me 30 plastic carrier bags as they didnt have any paper…i did feel really guilty!

would much prefer recyclable products & think supermarkets should make more of an effort…we spend enough with them!

To be honest I am indifferent to plastic bags, however paper envelopes is another story all together.

I hate plastic bags, bottles, jars, forks and spoons, cups, and anything else that is not recyclable, I wish they would stop making them and go back to paper bags, or cloth bags, and glass bottles, jars, milk bottles, it has to stop somewhere, the manufacturer of this plastic. The land fill in my state is now the highest point in the state, put some snow on it and would be a great place for skying.

I have my shopping delivered by tescos without carrier bags.

If I am buying a lot of shopping from the supermarket, and I am using my car, I take my laundry basket, put in the boot, when finished wheel the shopping to the car, fill basket. No plastic bags used. Easy to lift the shopping out of the boot when I get home.

they are fine, so long as people take them back to the store every couple months for recycling, rather than dumping in the trash and filling up our landfills.

I know I should be more enviornmentally concious but I honestly don’t mind which type of bag my items are packed in…usually I prefer plastic because I use them to pick up my dogs “business” and don’t really have extra space in my apartment for recycled bags.
