I want to surprise my girl with a handbag, but I’m a bit oblivious to what’s popular and fashionable (sa ang Pilipinas). I would like to know which styles (eg hobo, satchel) and brands you prefer. Money is also an issue so no suggestions for Louis Vuitton or Gucci, please.

Hobo bags are great, especially for younger girls. A silver one would be fun.

My fave one is a dark brown with designs so it’s not really that plain. I like it so much. In the Philippines my fave brands for bags are Celine, Guess & Nine West coz they are cool, comfy, good in quality & affordable (Of course, it also depends on one’s budget.) (–,)
I don’t like anything too bulky or baggy or big, but then something large enough to carry everything in. I’m not sure of any particular brandnames, but just make sure she likes the color and it is nothing too hideous. Also, one issue I have is with the clasps, velcro, or whatever it is holding the bag closed. Make sure she doesn’t have a pet peeve about a type of clasp.

I think hobo bags are safe to give as a gift, and it’s actually practical and convenient to carry around because she has lots of space to put in her things. Metallic colors are still in this year but if you really want to play safe, you can choose the neutral ones such as black, white, or earthy colors such as browns. But contrasting or striking colors are also in today, plus very attractive too. But what’s her favorite color? Anyways, If your girlfriend’s kind of adventurous with things, you can buy for example a red glossy hobo bag. I’ve seen that color of hobo bag my friend brought for our shoot once and it was really gorgeous. I just forgot where she bought it, i’m sorry! Satchel bags are also cool and very stylish but I think hobo bags are more interesting and safe to give as a gift. Gosh I’m not that good with brands though but you may want to start looking at SM department stores. You can also check out Guess, Lacoste… You may also want to roam around Glorietta mall in Ayala. You can find great bags there from store to store.

I’m Filipina and I like Kate Spade or Liz Clairbourne for the more affordable brands. I think almost every girl here already has a hobo bag, so it wouldn’t be advisable for you as a boyfriend to get something like that. I like to receive satchels as a present because it shows more personality. I like smaller bags, the kind that can only fit a small organizer, cellphone, wallet, and a few cosmetics. I also like brightly colored bags (pinks, reds, some shades of green, yellow and blue) because it makes my outfits stand out. But if she is a professional, you can buy something that is darkly colored. Deep purple is also a nice color for a bag.
