Concrete bags have partially hardened from moisture. Anyway to use them? or are they destined to be blocks?4 replies

I have several premix bags of concrete, Sakrete 80 lb bags, that have absorbed moisture from the air while sitting in the garage over the winter. Is there anything I can do to use them as concrete? They are somewhat hard. Or are they destined to stay concrete blocks.

If they are solid just toss them, you cant do any thing with them. If
some is hard you could open them and sift out the hard with a colander, or kids beach toy. Then toss the hard stuff. Take the good concrete and put it into bags then a storage container (Garbage Can, 5 Gallon Paint Bucket,Etc..)

Once concrete has hardened, there isn’t a heck of a lot you can do to make it usable again.
The best you could probably do is to try and extract whatever powder is left between the hard pieces and use that. Put it into a waterproof container until you want to use it.
If you don’t want to waste the hardened concrete, you could try and smash it up with a hammer and use it as coarse filler material.

    Blocks.

I have always found that concrete has a shelf life. Once past it it’s useless

You are better off just calling it a day and making them blocks. The cost of the bag is relatively cheap to the amount of work it will take to sift the dry cement from the hardened. Plus you risk the chance of cement burns on your skin.
