Can old bags of cement that has gone hard in its original bag be used in a sand/cement mix?2 replies

I’m renovating an old house and want to use the cement I have, about 6 bags, to build short peirs for a verandah. Obviously it will need to recrushed back to a usable consistency. Will it still set as cement.

I would think not as moisture has already set it as cement as it is already hardened. This would have used up the hardening properties. It’s a bummer….but you may just buy more new bags of cement to be sure you are not wasting your time and effort. It can however be re crushed and used as filler or a base….like you would use small rocks for drainage.

This happened to me a while ago with a bag of concrete, I opened the bag got my hammer & crushed it to almost powder again then mix it with water & worked fine. I needed it for fence posts 6 months still looks good.
