You’ve got to know the industry, the trends and what the designers and companies want. You must be able to reproduce or create the styles that the client wants.

Be up to speed on the latest trends by looking at what is going on in runway, print, and couture.
Models can be found by contacting agencies and hiring them, or if you are looking for something a little more local, modelmayhem or onemodelplace might be something that you can use to network.

well, the best thing to start out your career is to be an assistant to a (preferably successful) fashion photographer. also. you should always have an inspiration, aka some fashion photographer whose works you really admire, and learn from those.
just keep in mind the industry is EXTREMELY competitive, only the top 10% in the world make a 6 digit annual salary, and that’s not enough these days.
stay on top of your game, and never give up!
