Here’s my situation. I have a degree in fashion illustration but I worked my way up as a graphic designer with an auction house here in NYC. So I kind of have to go back and take classes. Can anyone suggest what classes I should take. I really need to know the lingo and the overall important things. Thank you to those who reply.

It depends on what classes you took in fashion illustration. I would suggest classes in graphic design, layout, and advertising.

As far as programs go, and having worked in both Quark (first) and then switched to Adobe InDesign, I would take InDesign. It’s a much more powerful program.

Take Photoshop too if you can, Illustrator is used alot but not nearly as much as Photoshop is.

Also, think about the field you want to go into, as NYC has so many opportunities in graphics you can practically pick if you want to go into the advertising side, the corporate side, the artsy side, etc. Specialize any course work towards that, say corporate, and concentrate your learning in one or two areas. Hope it helps!
