Street Fashion Photography: What kind of legal permission do you need?4 replies

To post street fashion photos on a website of my own, what kind of legal permissions would I need from the individual?
- verbal consent
- written/ signed contract?

Please provide accurate information.
thank you!
would asking the street fashion models to sign on a small mini version of a contract associated with releasing the photographs on the internet considered fair?

Or are more serious proceedures necessary?

You should always get a signed model release anytime you photograph someone if you ever intend to use the photos for any purpose – especially to sell them or post them for public viewing.

Are you shooting random individuals on the street that show a flare for fashion? That is what it sounds like.

Any time you shoot anyone, a professional model or a casual shot of an anonymous person and intend to use it commercially or even for self-promotion, you need a signed release.

Whenever I am shooting fashion using paid models in public areas, I have to pay for a permit and hire security (usually off duty police officers) to contain the area I have designated as my “set”.

I have found it is sometimes easier to go “collecting” shots of the city I can later lay in later using chroma key and shooting in the studio, than spending the $1200 or so a day to shoot in the city.

Have you ever shot on location on a city street and have to manage the makeup artists, hair stylists and wardrobe (where to the models change?) and a few assistants and still shoot in a timely manner? It is tough. I usually prefer to shoot on roof tops if I need an urban theme

Major thing you need? Of course a signed (not verbal) release form, but also get where they bought main items or the brand. it’s important to gove proper credit. After all, SOMEBODY had to have made those clothes.
