well a LOT. if they’re successful.. If you think even the ready-to-wear collections have pieces that cost $9000, then the couture dresses are possibly $100000.
But if you’re starting out it can be almost nothing.
It depends how popular you are/who you know. If you want a job in fashion designer be prepared to work extremely, extremely hard for next to nothing, with only a small chance of being ‘discovered’. Also, connection play a lot into it. Even if you have the best designs in the world, you might never be discovered if you don’t know the right people to get you there. My friend’s mom worked in the fashion industry for a short while, her salary was only about $25,000-35,000. Yet, top fashion designers like Karl Lagerfeld are worth millions.
In other words, if you don’t have the connections or the drive to become a top fashion designer, find another career (or, of course, be prepared to work for almost nothing a year).
