I bought the old fashion one that comes in the stainless steel container that you add the water and boil for few minutes. My sister says that the steamer is better what is your opinion. Many people have used the other one for years and they were perfectly fine.

We bought an Avent microwave steamer for $4 at a consignment sale. LOVE IT!!! It has got to be the best purchase we have made!!!
I have the microwave steam one – I think either First Years or Munchkin makes it – it’s super easy to use, and I can sterilize six bottles & parts (and a couple binkies, too!) all at once, in less than 10 minutes!
We used a pot of boiling water…and after a little while our new-parent paranoia receded to a normal level, and we stopped bothering to sterilize entirely. I don’t think there’s much value in doing this at all.
Remember, people used to make up formula in large batches (because it was a pain in the ___) and so they had to do it in large batches to make it an efficient process and store a lot – hence it made sense. With instant formula (or expressed breast milk) I just don’t see the point.
The human breast is not sterile and that’s what infants have always “eaten from.”
