actually the better known high-end designers (like alexander mcqueen, chanel, etc…) start with a couture collection, which is usually which catches the eyes of magazines and celebs who come knocking on your door wanting to wear your collection. then you have another collection which is more for the everyday person and when you have enough capital, you can start selling that in “your” boutique. the fashion weeks and shows and magazine reviews and number of celebs who wear your stuff is the resume that gets you into known

Are you designer? My mother is, she’s been working hard, and she’s had her own boutiques in London and etc. You just have to work hard and hope your efforts are noticed.

What I did was to start as an intern at FIDM and had my professors take alook at my sketches. Now they have me set up for a special classes where my looks get published in magazines such as Cosmo and Vogue:)
