do you like oats,the old fashion or the quick kind,and how do you prepare yours to eat?10 replies

I’m finishing up a bowl of delicious oats now.I prepared teh old fashion,with some margine,splenda sweetner,a little milk after i cooked them about 5-10 minutes//

    I like the quacker oat, because I like the different flavors. I always add some butter, sugar, and cinnamon!

    I like mine with maple syrup. If I’m out, I also use brown sugar. No preference whether old fashioned or quick cooking. I like both.

    Light Oat Bread

    INGREDIENTS
    1 1/4 cups water
    2 tablespoons margarine
    1 teaspoon salt
    3 cups all-purpose flour
    1/2 cup rolled oats
    2 tablespoons brown sugar
    1 1/2 teaspoons active dry yeast
    DIRECTIONS
    Add ingredients to bread machine pan in order recommended by your manufacturer. Use regular light setting.

    Oh, I love the old-fashioned oats, with a little sugar and cinnamon, and a big splash of milk. Nice and chewy! Not like the baby food you get when you cook up quick oats.

    However, quick oats are better in cookies, and you can grind them up to make oat bread — my friend gave me a wonderful recipe.

    (-: I’ve seen a serving suggestion of oats with an umeboshi pickled plum in the middle. I suppose that’s OK, but I haven’t lived in Japan long enough to want a bowl of that in the morning!

    Maybe after 20 more years.

    I just found Irish steel cut oats. They’re yummy. Made mine with rasins, cinnamon, nutmeg, brown sugar and milk

    i love my oat meal with apple cinnamon flavor a good large bowl with the easy add water kind from quaker thats the best

    I love the old fashioned oats, Add a little brown sugar and a splash of milk and yummy! And for a change of pace i like to cook raisins in the water add the oats , When serving put some sugar on and a splash of milk!

    i prrepare mine the same way instead of milk and sweetner add sweetened condensensed milk yummy and fattening.also honey a little butter. maybe you would enjoy the cake recipe made from oats it delicious.

    CAKE
    1 cup rolled oats
    1 1/4 cups boiling water
    1/2 cup butter
    1 cup granulated sugar
    1 cup brown sugar
    2 eggs
    1 teaspoon baking soda
    1/2 teaspoon salt
    1 teaspoon cinnamon
    1 2/3 cups flour
    1 teaspoon vanilla
    TOPPING
    6 tablespoons butter
    1/4 cup whole milk or cream
    1 cup brown sugar
    1/2 cup chopped nuts (your choice) i use coconut

    1. Mix oats and boiling water; set aside for 20 min.
    2. Cream butter& sugars thoroughly.
    3. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.
    4. Blend in oatmeal mixture Sift together remaining dry ingredients.
    5. Fold into batter.
    6. Stir in vanilla Pour into greased and floured 9 by 13 inch pan Bake in a 350 oven for 30 to 35 mins While the cake is baking, mix all topping ingredients thoroughly after baking, but before the cake cools, spread the topping on and broil about 2 minutes”or until it turns golden brown and delicious” watch it carefully though bc the sugar will caramalize& then BURN!
    7. (which doesnt taste very good).
    ps i also add a handful of raisins and its wonderful

    My kids love the old fashioned oatmeal, when I chop up an apple and put it in the water first to cook,then add the oats… add lots of cinnamon and a little sugar.

    I use either one and microwave it I put a apple in it thinly sliced or throw some raisins in it.I eat oatmeal everyday.
